the sense of scent

The sense of scent.

Immersion in nature is a multi sensorial experience that has long been established as having many health benefits.

Recent research has shown that the overhang sense that delivers these benefits is smell. In a 2019 study carried by Marcus Hedblom (Department of Ecology, Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences), it was shown that the overriding sense that delivers the health benefits from spending time outside is smell; establishing scents of nature as the single most important factor of our wellbeing response. Scent has the innate ability to trigger memory and elevate mood, providing a vehicle to transport us to a moment and place.

I love smells all things nature that encourage conscious breathing and promote beauty for the mind. In triggering memories of wild spaces, and lighting this candle I feel connected with the natural world whilst working. Also reminds us to take action to protect and conserve it. Empowered by the knowledge that in nurturing, we nurture ourselves.
